Building your Winter Capsule

Classic Autumn winter wardrobe capsule

Today is the first day of winter and down here in Melbourne, I can say we are truly feeling it.  Everyone will now be looking into their wardrobe to see what they have and what they need for the next 3 – 5 months as we go through the coldest of it and it wait for the sun to come out again in Spring, maybe not till Summer.

Last week I finished the last of my Style in 7 program and the very last workbook was on Wardrobes and Shopping guides. It was so much fun decoding the wardrobe capsules for all 7 of the personalities that I work with. I have shared with you here the Classic one and over the coming weeks I’ll start sharing with you the other 6 as well.

The average person wears 20% of their clothing 80% of the time. Let’s imagine that they have 100 pieces that cost them $50 each. That will be a wardrobe that cost $5000 of which they wear only $1000 worth of clothing and have wasted $4000. I don’t know about you but I cannot stand waste like that. I want every piece of clothing in my wardrobe to be of value.

You really want your wardrobe to be valuable. You will effectively stop throwing money away. So, my main tip is to ensure that whatever you buy will go with at least 3 other items in your wardrobe, before you even bother to try it on.

Here is the capsule for a Classic business woman. From this capsule, she will have 67 outfits. That’s 13 weeks of different outfits. Then imagine the fun you can have by spicing it up in winter with hats, scarves, tights and shoes. That does not even include playing with your jewellery.
